A Beginner's Guide to Coffee (OpenLearning)

This course describes the basics of coffee that is suitable for anyone who knows little or nothing about coffee but has high interest to learn it. Even if learners do not drink coffee, this course will help them to understand coffee starting from its cherry form until it is served in a cup ready to be consumed.

Course Outcomes

  • Describe history of coffee, cherry structure, bean variations and characteristics of barista
  • Analyze the process of coffee production
  • Identify factors and brewing mechanisms involved in coffee preparation
  • Collaborate in groups to discuss coffee products in different countries
  • Justify opinions on health effects of coffee consumption
  • Propose ideas to improve an existing menu in a coffee shop
