Designing Engaging Dashboards for Healthcare Analytics (Coursera)

Introduces processes and design principles for creating meaningful displays of information that support effective business decision-making. Studies how to collect and process data; create visualizations (both static and interactive); and use them to provide insight into a problem, situation, or opportunity. Introduces methods to critique visualizations along with ways to answer the elusive question: “What makes a visualization effective?” Discusses the challenges of making data understandable across a wide range of audiences.

Introduces the fundamentals of communication required for effective data storytelling. Other topics may include ethical uses of information displays, storytelling, infographics, immersive visualizations, and good use of data dashboards. Offers students an opportunity to use one or more software tools.

Syllabus

WEEK 1
"Client-Ready" Visuals
In this module you will become re-acquainted with your team's Divvy project. You'll continue preparing "Client-Ready" visuals, reviewing all of the materials that you have thus far and engaging in robust discussion with your fellow learners.

WEEK 2
Refining Execution of Visualizations
This module reintroduces the concepts of “The Ask Behind The Ask,” and stresses the importance of making your data visualizations “Client Ready.” You will learn the concept of refined execution, closing the module with a talk from Val Aniceto discussing the subject.

WEEK 3
Presenting Information
This module is all about presenting. Taking the visuals you produced in the previous weeks, you will build a presentation to showcase your data story. In support of this, you’ll consider advanced techniques for structuring your story and determining the audience.

WEEK 4
Dashboards
In this module, you'll cover both the simple and complicated aspects of dashboards. We focus on wrapping up the Divvy project and ensure that the executive team have a dashboard that can continue to deliver the same data story you intended from the outset.
