WEEK 1 - Introduction to aesthetics, history and institutions
The first week provides an overview of artistic creation in public space by combining historical, conceptual aesthetic and professional approaches. It provides answers to the following questions:
• How did art in public space start?
• What does public space mean?
• What formats, aesthetics and trends embody these forms of art? • In what kinds of professional sectors can they be found?

WEEK 2 - Specific dramaturgical issues
The second week focuses on writing and dramaturgy for public spaces. Several questions are covered: • What is dramaturgy?
• Is there specific dramaturgical writing for public spaces?
• How do artists use public spaces in their writing?
• What types of artistic intentions are presented in unconventional spaces?

WEEK 3 - Location scouting and in situ writing methodology
The third week focuses on scenography in public space and provides a specific scouting method for these projects:
• What are the interactions between works and places?
• How and in what way can the scenography interact with the space? • What is site-visit and how should it be carried out?

WEEK 4- Understanding issues related to the relationship with the audience
Finally, the fourth week explores the place of audiences in public art works. What characteristics structure the relationship with audiences in public art projects?
• What specific design and staging processes do artists use to manage the place of the spectator in their artistic creations?
• How do artists handle audience participation?

All these lessons will be illustrated through numerous examples and analyses of artistic works, with over 100 works cited, providing a real journey into contemporary European artistic creation! Reference files will allow anyone wanting to continue the experience to read further articles and refe- rence materials, or watch additional videos. Create in Public Space can be approached at many levels and is designed as a reference resource on artistic creation in public spaces.

In this course you will look closely at 100 photographs from the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, going behind the scenes of the Museum and into artist studios through original films and audio interviews.

Leading Innovation in Arts and Culture (Coursera)

Developed by David Owens at Vanderbilt University and customized for the cultural sector with National Arts Strategies, this course will help arts and culture leaders create an environment where new ideas are constantly created, shared, evaluated and the best ones are successfully put to work. One of the toughest challenges for any leader is getting traction for new ideas. Winning support can be a struggle. As a result, powerful new ideas often get stuck. This is especially true in the cultural sector. People involved in arts and culture often have little time and even less money for experimentation and risks. This course will help those in the performing arts, museums, zoos, libraries and other cultural organizations build environments where new management and program ideas flourish.

Is your show accessible? When we ask about accessibility to shows, most people think about access for wheel chairs: the sitting arrangements and where their WC is accessible. When we ask for more details, people usually think about producing a show where persons with disabilities are performing, for example producing a show where there is some dancing with people on wheel chairs.

Fashion as Design (Coursera)

Among all objects of design, our clothes are the most universal and intimate. Like other kinds of design, fashion thrives on productive tensions between form and function, automation and craftsmanship, standardization and customization, universality and self-expression, and pragmatism and utopian vision. It exists in the service of others, and it can have profound consequences—social, political, cultural, economic, and environmental.
