Alexandra Mavroeidi

Alex Mavroeidi moved to Aberdeen in 2001 to undertake her MSc in Sports Nutrition having achieved her dietetic state registration the previous year. In 2006, she completed her PhD that involved developing an interactive self-completed bone specific questionnaire the validity of which was measured using triaxial accelerometers. Using the questionnaire Alex assessed the effect of habitual physical activity on the bone mass of 1254 women who took part in the North of Scotland Osteoporosis Study (NOSOS).
She then worked as a Research Fellow for the School of Medicine University of Aberdeen on a 15 month observational study looking at the relative importance of sunlight and diet on vitamin D status in women living in the north of the UK.
In December 2008, she took up a lectureship in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Aberdeen.
Alex is a registered member of the British Dietetic Association and the Health Professions Council and an active member of several professional societies including Sport Dietitians UK, American College of Sports Medicine, and International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) Level 3 (instructor). She holds an NHS honorary status with Grampian NHS Health Trust.
