Alexandra Johnstone

Alex is a Senior Research Fellow and Registered UK Nutritionist based at the University of Aberdeen, Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health. She leads internationally competitive research in the area of human appetite control.
She obtained her PhD from the University of Aberdeen in 2001 and has conducted over 50 dietary, clinical & exercise based studies with human volunteers and published 75 peer reviewed research papers. Recent high profile work has been on regulation of appetite with high-protein diets, which has been applied in the supermarket shelves (development of new weight loss range of high protein meals). Her role at the Institute, being funded by the Scottish Executive, requires interactions with policy makers and advisors & MSP’s. The nature of her work also facilitates frequent interactions with the media, press and food industry within the arena of nutrition, diet and health. She is a partner in 3 EU grants, as well as other competitive grants.
