The online course “Human Identification in Forensics: Сurrent Problems and Trends” has been designed and developed by the team of authors of Department of Forensic Medicine, Medical Institute of People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University). The main objective of the course is to acquire systemic theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of forensic forensic personal identification and medical criminology.
The course contains four modules: General Concepts Of Personal Identification, DNA Analysis, Forensic Anthropology and Forensic Facial Reconstruction. The course materials include video lectures, theoretical lectures, cases, crosswords, mindmaps, tests and additional materials for reading. Special features of the course include practical master classes, as well as exclusive video interviews with leading scientists in the field of forensic medicine. We wish you success in your studies!

What you'll learn
The listeners will get acquainted with:

  • The basic concepts of the theory of forensic identification of a living person and dead bodies
  • The algorithm for conducting forensic identification studies
  • The concept of personal traits
  • Features of the forensic DNA analysis
  • The basic concepts of forensic anthropology and odontology
  • The method of facial reconstruction from the skull

Syllabus

  • Module 1 is «General concepts identification», which is aimed on consideration of the actual problems of personal identification in forensics and police practice
  • Module 2 is «DNA Analysis», highlighting the basics of genetics and DNA analysis procedures
  • Module 3 is «Forensic anthropology» dedicated to forensic osteology and odontology
  • Module 4 is «Forensic facial reconstruction», covering the general concepts of facial anthropology and focusing on the method of forensic facial reconstruction
