Make Travel Photography Everyone Wants to See (Skillshare)

Offered by Skillshare,
Make Travel Photography Everyone Wants to See (Skillshare)

Pretty much everyone travels, and takes pictures, but few intentionally make travel photography everyone wants to see, and this, of course, is what separates the casual hobbyists from those who can rightfully call themselves travel photographers. In this class, I'll also show you how to go beyond the postcard shots everyone else is taking and how to create interesting, storytelling images your friends and family will be begging you to see, not the other way around.

The main concepts we’ll explore include:

  1. My Number One Photo Tip (let’s just get this out of the way, it'll come in handy, for sure)
  2. How to Point & Shoot (this is most certainly not what you might think)
  3. Storytelling in photography (we as travel photographers are, after all, storytellers)
  4. Distinguishing between Portraits and Environmental Portraits
  5. Why it’s important to Have a Theme in Mind
  6. Timing & Anticipation and how they can be the difference between good, and great, photography
  7. Giving Back (this concept will likely surprise you)

At the end of each lesson, I'll explain more about the accompanying assignment, but see Class Project for additional details.

The class project will consist of a brief assignment based on what you've learned during each lesson. At the end of each video, there’ll be a short exercise resulting in a single image, or series of images, that represent(s) that video's concept, which I'll explain.
You can choose to watch each video and then go out and capture the image(s) that represent that concept, or watch a number of videos and capture those images, or you can consume all the content and then get all your images at once or over a period of time.
When and how you capture the images for each assignment is entirely up to you, but I strongly encourage you to actually complete each exercise as the only sure way to improve, is to actually do.
One of my mottos is "You can't get worse at photography." The more you're out there photographing, practicing your craft, making mistakes, and most importantly learning from them, the better you'll get, guaranteed.

What would you give to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Ansel Adams in the darkroom? To watch him wave his hand beneath focused beams of light as a reverse image of Full Moon over Half Dome burned into the paper's silver surface. No two prints would ever be precisely the same. He was as much an artist here as he was in the field.
