Draw from human-centered design tools learned in Human-Centered Design for Work at a Distance: Toolbox Essentials to identify and solve real-world case studies for individuals reinventing their work at a distance. This course builds on the teachings in Human-Centered Design for Work at a Distance: Toolbox Essentials. It must be completed before enrolling in this course.

One of the benefits of acquiring human-centered design skills is that they are extremely versatile. Once mastered, they can be applied at an individual, team or organizational level, to support product design, team communications, problem solving, customer experience and more.
In Human-Centered Design for Work at a Distance: Prototype Solutions , you will deepen your knowledge of human-centered design, combine the tools learned in Human-Centered Design for Work at a Distance: Toolbox Essentials, and learn a problem-solving methodology to propose solutions for real-world people who need to transform how they work at a distance.
Continue to learn from guest speakers from a range of industries, work with, and receive feedback on a real case study, and build a case study based on a real person in your community that you could support. Initiate and implement your own design process to help improve or re-invent that individual or organization’s work/business.
This course is part of the Human-Centered Design for Work at a Distance Professional Certificate.

What you'll learn

  • Combine human-centered design tools to solve problems for others.
  • Exercise visual thinking and apply visual models to generate and prototype actionable, innovative ideas.
  • User-test tangible solutions to help real people develop or reinvent their work and/or businesses from a distance.

Human-Centered Design for Work at a Distance: Toolbox Essentials must be completed before enrolling in Human-Centered Design for Work at a Distance: Prototype Solutions.

Syllabus

Week 1: Learn a problem-solving methodology, understand how you solve problems, and identify and make propositions to solve a real-world problem. Guest speaker case study: Lalo Espejo, ESL Instructor and Script Writer.
Week 2: Manage your iterative solutions supporting others who are reinventing their work at a distance through Agile project management processes. Guest speaker case study: Naz Mandani, Project Manager, Customer Success Manager.
Week 3: Improve your own value proposition and that of your colleagues using specific HR strategies. Guest speaker case study: Cathy Lim, Human Resource Manager, Hot Head Games.
Week 4: Develop and nurture an adaptive team culture to improve output and enable positive collaboration. Guest speaker case study: Andy Moore, xR Programmer, Game Designer.
Culminating capstone assignment: Each week students will add to and apply human-centered tools to generate and test an action plan for a real person in their circle who wants to radically transform the work they do with others at a distance.
