Patrick Parra Pennefather
Dr. Patrick Pennefather is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Theatre and Film at UBC, focusing on the Design of Sound, and a founding faculty member at the Master of Digital Media (MDM) Program, a multidisciplinary graduate consortium comprising of UBC, SFU, ECUAD and BCIT. Over the past ten years teaching at the Master of Digital Media Program, Patrick has developed a successful rapid prototyping methodology focused on mentoring teams co-constructing scalable digital prototypes for real-world clients.
Patrick has a multi-disciplinary background spanning education, learning design, digital media, sound engineering and performing arts. He leverages his diverse expertise to teach, research and facilitate workshops on subjects including human-centered design, rapid prototyping, improvisation, creativity, disruptive teaching and learning, game-based learning, engagement, design unthinking, and mixed reality development (xR).
Patrick is currently researching rapid prototyping xR pipelines at UBC in music, medical and educational applications, and has published in a variety of journals in the fields of project-based learning and VR, AR and MR.
