Stellenbosch University

When living in Stellenbosch, it can be difficult to distinguish the oak-lined town from the university. Nestled between the picturesque Boland mountains and vineyards of the Cape Winelands of South Africa, Stellenbosch University (SU), has a uniquely alive cultural and vibrant ambiance attributed to its local and international, student community of almost 29,000.
The main SU campus is characterised by a fusion of state-of-the-art modern contemporary and time-honored architecture from previous centuries. This fusion reflects how SU has both sound academic underpinnings as an established institution of excellence, and visionary thinking regarding the creation of a sustainable 21st century.
SU takes pride in its recognition as being a frontrunner in research and academic excellence. According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, SU is one of the top 300 universities in the world, and among the top 20 in BRICS countries. It also features among the world’s elite institutions in 10 of the 36 subjects featured in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for 2015.
SU was also included in the 2014 CWTS Leiden Ranking, which measures the scientific performance of 750 major universities worldwide. Subsequently, SU recognises its responsibility and role in building the intellectual, scientific and technological capacity of not only South Africa, but the African continent as a whole.
