Nikki Moran

My academic research focuses on music as social interaction, a topic I have studied through fieldwork, video analysis, and experimental methods. I enjoy teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students at Edinburgh, including the opportunity to develop courses that build on students' diverse musical backgrounds - not just their formal training. Since 2012, I've led the development of a new 4-year undergraduate programme, MA in Music.
During my BMus degree (City University, London), I studied classical viola performance at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and took weekly classes in North Indian classical music performance with Prof. Gerry Farrell, then as a sitar student of Pandit Arvind Parikh. Before took up this post in Edinburgh in 2007, I busked regularly and led workshops in North Indian music for schools and community music projects.
