Bruce Kelley

Bruce Kelley is the founding director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at the University of South Dakota. He directs a team that is enthusiastically committed to the development of vibrant educational experiences at the University of South Dakota, regardless of teaching modality. The CTL accomplishes this goal through a series of activities that range from one-on-one faculty consultations to online workshops offered nationally to distance faculty. Dr. Kelley’s research has explored pedagogy in a number of different ways, from exploring the use of writing to help students learn music theory to the development of outcomes-based objectives for the purposes of unit-wide assessment. Dr. Kelley received his Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance from Nebraska Wesleyan University, a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in Music Theory from The Ohio State University, and a Certificate in Management Development from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
