Quantum Detectors and Sensors (edX)

Learn how to analyze and design quantum sensors and devices that extract maximal information from the world around us. Classical detectors and sensors are ubiquitous around us from heat sensors in cars to light detectors in a camera cell phone. Leveraging advances in the theory of noise and measurement, an important paradigm of quantum metrology has emerged. Here, ultra-precision measurement devices collect maximal information from the world around us at the quantum limit.

This enables a new frontier of perception that promises to impact machine learning, autonomous navigation, surveillance strategies, information processing, and communication systems.
Students in this in-depth course will learn the fundamentals about state-of-the-art quantum detectors and sensors. They will also learn about quantum noise and how it limits quantum devices. The primary goal of the course is to empower students with a critical and deep understanding of emerging applications at the quantum-classical boundary. This will allow them to adopt quantum detectors and sensors for their own endeavors.
This course is part of the Quantum Technology: Detectors and Networking MicroMasters.

What you'll learn

  • Theory of quantum noise
  • Superconducting single photon detectors
  • Foundations of Quantum metrology
  • Operating principles of quantum vs. classical detectors
  • Quantum sensing devices including magnetometers and interferometers

Supply Chain Technology and Systems (edX)

Learn how technology is used in supply chain systems from fundamental concepts to innovative applications. There are underlying fundamental principles and concepts that apply to all supply chains, which can be expressed in relatively straightforward models. However, to actually implement them across a real supply chain requires the use of technology across multiple systems. Supply chains have a long history of using technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness. The shear scale and scope of most supply chains require many distinct systems to interact with each other.

Beginning Custom Projects with Raspberry Pi (Coursera)

In this course you will use a Raspberry Pi 4 to build a complete network-connected project with sensors and motors and access it from your smartphone. We'll explore all the parts which make this work, so you can use this experience as a foundation for your own projects. We'll use the Raspberry Pi as an "embedded system" (as opposed to a desktop computer) so you're ready to build a Raspberry Pi into your projects as the brains that make it all work. Want to build your own Internet of Things (IoT) device? Home automation? Robotics? This is the class to learn how it all works, to get you building on your own.

Touch IoT with SAP Leonardo (openSAP)

Join this free online course to learn and experience how the Internet of Things (IoT) works. If you’re interested in running an IoT project, learn how sensors and devices with intelligent software can support you to achieve your goals. What does the Internet of Things mean to you? We first asked this question with the course “Imagine IoT”, held in 2016. Since then, IoT has continued to evolve at a rapid pace, with even more IoT projects demonstrating what’s possible in a world of digitally connected and sensing things. And SAP has responded by announcing SAP Leonardo, an innovation portfolio focused on this digital transformation.

Quantum Technologies for Decision Makers (edX)

Quantum technology is all around yet many of us can readily be confused by the science, let alone the trajectories to identifying commercial opportunities. In such a context, making strategic decisions when the science and engineering are shifting presents many innovation dilemmas. Our interest lies in exploring enough of the science to boost our understanding so that we can make informed decisions to allocate resources that create and harness emerging opportunities.
