Basic Excel for Basic Bookkeeping - an introductory Class for those that are new to Excel and new to Bookkeeping or need a refresher class. In This Class You Will Learn The Basics Of Excel, The Very Basics of Bookkeeping, And How You Can Do Simple and Basic Bookkeeping in Excel.If you need to record basic transactions for your business. If you are new to Excel? Do you need an Excel Refresher course THEN REGISTER NOW

We will begin this course by introducing you to Excel, where you will learn the very basics. We will introduce you to a workbook and the ribbons, and you will learn how to select, enter and delete data.
In section 2 we will move into the very basics of bookkeeping, we will introduce you to the day books that you should keep and we will identify key details that you should record in these day-books. These day-books, prepared in Excel, are available for download, and we will use them in the rest of this course while we are working in Excel.
In section 3 - Excel working with data, you will learn how insert, remove and merge cells, rows and columns. We will also look at find and replace, hide and unhide and Special paste. After this we will move on to entering basic formula and some formatting.
Section 4 of this course - Excel Organizing and sorting data, will give you the opportunity to organize the day-books using tables, filters, names and data validation
Finally in section 5 Excel Analyzing data you will be introduced to Excels recommended charts and recommended pivot tables.
Once you have finished this class you will be ready for some more advanced Excel. Check out my profile to see what else I have available
Please download the attached workbook and practice the examples as you go through the class
When you have a section complete - post the Section number and complete so we know that you are completing the exercises

Section 1:
To ensure that you have gained an understand of this section, try out the following
Open a new workbook in Excel
Save a new workbook
Select cell A2 and type in your name
Select cell A2 and delete your name
Undo the delete so that your name reappears.

Using the sample Day Book file from section 2, have a go at the following (if you get stuck, don't be afraid to post a question on the discussion board)

  1. On the worksheet, Pastespecial, Find the value 500 and replace it with 1.42
  2. On the worksheet, Pastespecial, use the paste special function to multiple all of the values in column A by the multiplier value in cell C1
  3. On any Day Book that has row 2 blank, delete this row.
  4. Format the Day Book Name on each day book so that it has been merged and centered.
  5. Ensure dates and % are in the correct format
  6. Enter any missing columns to the petty cash day book including any necessary formula

Using the workbook you have been working on, complete the following
1, Create a table for each of the day books

  1. On the sheet Salestax_vat, give a name to the sales tax rates range.
  2. In each of the Day Books, set up data validation for the sales tax rates, so that the % are pulled directly from the named list that you set up in 2 above.
