Networked Scholars (Canvas.net)

Networked Scholars (Canvas.net)

This 4-week course introduces participants to the tools and practices associated with academics’ participation in online social networks in order to share, reflect upon, critique, improve, validate, and otherwise develop their scholarship.

Together we will explore ideas associated with digital scholarship, open scholarship, and social scholarship. We will also investigate how particular tools and practices may enhance the impact and reach of scholarship, and we will explore the challenges and tensions associated with emerging forms of scholarship. By the end of the course I hope that participants will be better informed about the role of social media in the lives of knowledge workers and academics and decide whether and to what extent they might personally use social media/networks for academic purposes. This course is of immediate relevance to doctoral students, academics, and knowledge workers. Faculty development professionals and faculty members who teach research methods courses may also find this course worthwhile.
