As a teenager, Pierre-Yves Rochat was fascinated by electronics within the electronic club GESO in the 1970s.
Since the end of his studies at the EPFL in 1980, he worked on his own. The "engineer Pierre-Yves Rochat Bureau" was very active between 1980 and 1995 within the framework of French-speaking Smaky computers.
Since 1997, he traveled frequently in francophone Africa, mainly in Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, and Congo. Currently, he spends several months each year, primarily to teach in colleges.
