Laura Sockol

I joined the psychology department at Davidson in 2015. I completed my M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Pennsylvania and my predoctoral internship at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. I am a graduate of Bryn Mawr College, where I earned my A.B. in psychology and completed a secondary education certification program in English and the social sciences. I teach courses in abnormal psychology, research methods in clinical psychology, and a capstone seminar for senior psychology majors.
My research focuses on perinatal mental health, particularly risk factors for depression and anxiety during pregnancy and the early postpartum period and effective treatments for perinatal psychopathology. In 2014, I received the Steiner Young Investigator Award from the North American Society for Psychosocial Obstetrics & Gynecology. I was also awarded the Early Career Investigator Award from the Women's Special Interest Group of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
My clinical interests include the use of cognitive-behavioral therapy for mood and anxiety disorders, particularly among women experiencing problems related to reproductive transitions (pregnancy, postpartum, PMDD, and menopause).
