Katherine Marconi

Katherine Marconi is an Adjunct Professor in Health Care Administration and Health Informatics Administration at UMUC. She teaches a variety of health informatics and public health courses. She is a board member of the Maryland Association of Healthcare Executives, a local chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and an active member of the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). She recently edited Big Data and Health Analytics (CRC Press) with Harold Lehman, MD, PhDPreviously, she was Associate Vice Dean of the Business and Management Department and Health Informatics Administration, The Graduate School, UMUC, where she conceptualized and launched a Graduate Certificate in Global Health Administration.
For most of her career, she has worked in public health. Dr. Marconi’s international experience includes being the first Director, Strategic Information, Global AIDS Ambassador’s Office, US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Her office coordinated health data collection by US government agencies from 36 countries and she represented the United States at UNAIDS and WHO HIV evaluation and data meetings; work that brought her to many African and Asian countries. Before coming to PEPFAR, Dr, Marconi was the first national Director of the Office of Science and Epidemiology for the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, Health Resources and Services Administration, US Department of Health and Human Services. She also has directed chronic disease and health planning programs at the state and community levels. Dr. Marconi has published in a variety of public health, health care administration, and data and evaluation journals, and provided outcome results for US Presidents’ speeches on HIV/AIDS. She has been President of the Maryland Chapter of the American Public Health Association and a founder of several women’s professional organization.
