Jamie A Ward

I research methods of recognising and understanding human activity and social interaction. I work with multi-modal, real world, sensor data, towards the goal of building wearable systems that can model and recognise different human activities. Interdisciplinary by nature, my work draws on and contributes to topics within the fields of wearable computing and social neuroscience, encompassing autism research, wearable health monitoring, and using theatre as a laboratory for real-world interaction research. I received my PhD from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zürich, Switzerland in 2006, and a BEng in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh in 2000. Prior to joining Goldsmiths, I was a Post-doctoral researcher at University College London (UCL)’s Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, and at Lancaster University (where I was a Marie Curie Fellow). Between these two post-docs I re-trained and worked as an actor.
