Heather Howlett

Heather works as a project coordinator in the teacher professional development program for the Strategic Literacy Initiative at WestEd. She was an instructional coach in Reading Apprenticeship and an eighth grade science teacher for Howell Public Schools in Howell, Michigan for 12 years.
She was first trained in Reading Apprenticeship in 2007 and has been implementing it in her classroom since that time. She was trained as a facilitator at the Leadership Institute in Reading Apprenticeship in 2008 and became a consultant for WestEd in 2010. Along with continuous literacy work in her home district and county, she has been facilitating trainings across Michigan and in other states. Her classroom work is featured on the U.S. Department of Education’s website, “Doing What Works” and she co-authored an article about Reading Apprenticeship that was published in the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy.
Heather is a graduate of Madonna University with a major in Biology. She has also earned her Master’s Degree in Teaching and Learning from Nova Southeastern University.
