Carlo Calfapietra

Carlo Calfapietra obtained a Master degree in Forestry at University of Tuscia in 1998 and a PhD in Forest Ecology at University of Padua in 2002. Between 2005 - 2006 he was Marie Curie Research Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA). In 2007, he joined the Italian National Research Council (CNR) as a Researcher, becoming Senior Researcher in 2010 and Research Director in 2019. Since 2018, he is Director of the CNR Institute of Research on Terrestrial Ecosystem. Since 2009 he is also lecturer at University of Tuscia for various courses including Urban Forestry, Plants and trees for environmental restoration, Plants and trees for improving air quality.
His main interests are the biosphere-atmosphere interactions and the effects of global change and air pollutants on these, with a particular focus on the biogenic VOC emission both in urban and rural environments. He is an expert in Green infrastructure, ecosystem services provided by green areas, NBS indicators, air quality benefits of NBS. Dr. Calfapietra has published about 100 research papers in international journals/books on these topics (H-index: 47) and coordinates/is involved in a number of international and national projects.
