Anvar Velji

Dr. Velji is currently an Associate Dean Global Health Sciences, Professor of Medicine, and Director- Center for Global Health Research at the California University of Science and Medicine (CalMed), in Colton, California. He was a Founding faculty and held similar positions at California Northstate University College of Medicine, Elk Grove, California and past Chief of Infectious Diseases, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, South Sacramento. Dr. Velji was born in Kenya, and is a Co-founder of Global Health Education Consortium (GHEC), now CUGH; Founding Board member of the CUGH; member Transition Board (GHEC-CUGH), member Operational Committee CUGH; Past President of the Northern California Infectious Disease Society, and Founding Director of the Medicine Residency Program (South Sacramento Kaiser/UCD). He served as a member of the International Reference Group, and member of The Global Task Force on Global Consensus for Social Accountability (GCSA) in Medical Education; and a member of the steering committee on Global Health Diplomacy, US Center for Citizen Diplomacy. Recently he was instrumental, along with Mexican and Latin American colleagues in launching Alianza Latinamericana y del Caribe de Salud Global (ALSAG). He has also been an advisor to the University of California, Davis, and the Kaiser Permanente in launching their global health programs.
