Revit for Structural Engineers (edX)

Revit for Structural Engineers (edX)

Learn how to model basic building structural systems in Autodesk Revit. Building Information Modeling (BIM) has initiated a sea change in the way that buildings are designed and constructed. Old methods rooted in two-dimensional thinking have been pushed aside to make way for new three-dimensional approaches that leverage the latest advancements in computing technology.

Advanced 3D modeling programs, augmented reality, virtual reality, and other technologies have presented design professionals with new opportunities to maximize the efficiency and performance of buildings, streamline and optimize construction operations, and to help mitigate the impact of buildings on the environment.
However, as the AEC industry continues to evolve, the educational system has been slow to respond. There is an ever-widening gap between the traditional engineering curriculum and the skills that students need when they graduate. This program will fill that gap by not only broadly introducing students to Virtual Design and Building Information Modeling, but providing specific VDC applications for Structural Engineers, MEP Engineers, Fire Protection Engineers, and Construction Engineers

What you'll learn

  • Revit modeling tools for building structures
  • How to model a cast-in-place concrete building structure in Revit
  • How to model a structural steel building structure in Revit
  • How to model foundation systems, including piles and pile caps in Revit
  • How to develop structural details

Syllabus

Week 1: Cast-in-place Concrete Modeling
Week 2: Structural Steel Modeling
Week 3: Foundation Modeling

3D Models for Virtual Reality (Coursera)

This course will begin your journey to creating Virtual Reality experiences. A Virtual Reality experience is a new world that you step into and are entirely immersed in. Creating a VR experience means creating that world and all the objects in it. In this course you will learn the basics of 3D graphics: how we create objects and how to lay them out to create an environment. You will learn techniques like materials and texturing that make your objects appear realistic. You will also learn about audio techniques to ensure that your experiences sound great as well as looking great.

Design Computing: 3D Modeling in Rhinoceros with Python/Rhinoscript (Coursera)

Why should a designer learn to code? As our world is increasingly impacted by the use of algorithms, designers must learn how to use and create design computing programs. Designers must go beyond the narrowly focused use of computers in the automation of simple drafting/modeling tasks and instead explore the extraordinary potential digitalization holds for design culture/practice.
