University is all about presentations - interviews, speeches, group projects. If you're like me, you'll be lucky if you got to do a single speech in high school to prepare. This course has an aim of gearing students up with the necessary skills needed to make successful speeches and presentations.

Aims:

  • An aim of getting students prepared for the tools and techniques they will need for the many presentations they will deliver in college
  • An introduction to public speaking sub-topics
  • A chance for students to draft, rehearse and present a speech as they follow along the course

The class project is a simple speech that students will have to deliver in front of an audience. The students are free to choose who they’d like to speak in front of - friends, colleagues, or even other students taking the same course staying nearby. The speech topic can be anything - that the students find interesting or are passionate about. The speech should be from 3-5 minutes.

Successful Interviewing (Coursera)

The goal of hiring managers is not just to hire people who need a job. It’s to hire people who believe in their organization, its mission and the work that’s involved in the job position. Every hiring manager knows: Hire people to do a job and they’ll work for your money. Hire people who believe in the work and they’ll work for their passion. And this is not a case of “fake it until you make it.” You have to be genuine about your belief in an organization and its mission. That means you have to have researched the industry, the company, and the position – and be able to show how your goals in life align with the company’s mission.
