Make a Simple Crochet Amigurumi Bee : BEGINNER FRIENDLY (Skillshare)

This class will take you step-by-step through the process of crocheting a cute little amigurumi bee, from holding the crochet hook and basic crochet skills, to color changing and putting it all together. No previous experience necessary!

Skills covered:

  • Base chain
  • Single crochet
  • Crocheting in the round
  • Increasing stitches; decreasing stitches to form a ball
  • Color changing to create stripes
  • Basic assembly
  • BONUS: reading a crochet pattern

Your class project is simply to follow along as we crochet a bee together. Share your finished bees in the project gallery, and don't forget to like and comment on your fellow classmates' projects, too : )
Materials needed to complete the bee:

  • Worsted weight yarn in black, yellow and white
  • A 4.0mm (US G) or 5.0mm (US H) crochet hook: my personal preference is a 4.0mm hook for tighter stitches that don’t show the stuffing inside, but I used a 5.0mm hook while filming this class.
  • Polyester fiberfill stuffing (I use Poly-fil)
  • Yarn needle (I use a tapestry needle in the videos)

Do you know you could make your own doll via crochet? Yes, you can! And it's relatively easy. Crocheted (or knitted) dolls are also known as "Amigurumi". Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, usually cute stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. The word is a portmanteau of the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll.
