Introduction to everyday watercolour doodles (gain confidence to paint in your own style) (Skillshare)

Hello and welcome to my course on creating simple every day watercolour doodles. This course is intended to help you explore the medium and build confidence and perhaps establish a habit of making art everyday for your personal happiness and as a stress relief. If you are inspired to do art, and is not sure where to start mainly because you don’t the have right materials or may not have created a lot of things since school, the thought could be quite daunting! I completely understand that feeling!

In spite of learning art and drawing and painting almost everyday, I still get stuck very often. There are times when I really want to paint, purely because It makes me happy. But I just can’t because i don’t know what to paint! Being a very busy mum of 2 little ones, I have realised that I need to make use of what ever little time I get.
Hence I have a daily routine that lets me paint almost everyday. Through this course, I will be sharing a few tips that helped me to establish this daily habit. I will also talk about how I find inspiration to paint or source out reference pictures and objects.
This course is great for anyone who likes to explore the watercolour medium as well as gain confidence by establishing a daily habit of drawing and painting that could just be the beginning of something exciting for you!
Suggested Materials

  • Watercolour paint (cakes/ tubes: If you are new to this medium, I suggest you get a set of paint so you have the basic colours necessary to start off)

I hope to see your beautiful illustrations inspired by this class!
Share your final illustration and progress shots with the class by uploading to the "Your Project" section. If you have any questions or need more tips, please let me know in the discussions and I am happy to help!

The class project is divided into 2 parts.
Part 1: Creating simple shapes and patterns using basic watercolour techniques. This helps you to gain confidence in using the medium as well as gain brush control.
Part 2: building up on the watercolour patterns created in the first part. Observe the illustrations you painted earlier and create something new out of the patterns/ washes.
Recreate the things that you find in nature/ things around you that interests you. Collect items that you want to paint/draw and try to recreate it.
Who is this class for?
This course is great for anyone who likes to explore the watercolour medium as well as gain confidence by establishing a daily habit of drawing and painting.
The first 2 parts of the project is great for beginners.
Part 3 involves some basic level drawing skills and suitable for intermediate levels or for a beginner who'd like to challenge themselves!
I always believe that each one of us have a specific style. Hence, our illustrations will look different. Part 3 of the project that involves some amount of life drawing is a great way to unleash your style of illustration! Although my style may lean more towards realistic proportions, another person may like it more distorted.
I hope to see a lot of different illustrative styles in the project session.
