Leonardo da Vinci (1452 - 1519) once described a way to find new inventions and ideas. Look at stains on a wall, he said, or ashes of a fire, or clouds to find new inventions. To him it was an aid to reflect and think about things.
In this class I will guide you through a process in which you can develop this habit for yourself, and enrich the ways in which you can form your creative ideas.
I will show you different kinds of found textures, so you can find them for yourself too where you are, and I will show you ways in which you can extract interesting ideas from them.
Project Description
My class project for you is to find interesting textures like stains, or ashes, and make something based on these. A sketch or a painting, or whatever medium you work in. Just be inspired by the way Leonardo da Vinci described this process of finding new ideas. You can also use the inspirational videos in this class to get going.
Step one
Choose or find an interesting texture, like stains on a wall, some splashed paint, ashes of a fire, it can be anything which was formed without human intervention.
Step two
Do you see anything in this texture? try to write down in words, or sketch on a piece of paper, or process it in a way that's best for you, what you see.
Step three
Reduce what you did in step two to a well conceived idea, or form which you can use in your own creative process, in your own medium.
