La toma de decisiones está en la esencia de los negocios. Gerenciar es tomar decisiones, muchas veces bajo presión, con información desordenada y en un contexto de incertidumbre. Un aspecto básico es entender y analizar la información, organizar los datos de forma de facilitar su posterior uso y la toma de decisiones.

Si bien hay muchas otras dimensiones que entran en juego, el primer paso es formular bien el problema, estructurarlo y procesar la información. En este sentido, el principal objetivo de este curso es ayudarlo a ser un mejor tomador de decisiones a través de herramientas técnicas.
A lo largo de este curso el alumno desarrollará habilidades cuantitativas para la toma de decisiones, a través del aprendizaje de métodos estadísticos con aplicaciones a los negocios en Excel. El foco está en la comprensión y en el uso de herramientas básicas de análisis e inferencia estadística tratando de que el alumno sea un usuario de estos métodos, comprenda en qué consisten, cuál es la intuición, su uso y aplicaciones.

Syllabus

WEEK 1
Estadística Descriptiva
Bienvenidos al curso. En esta semana veremos los siguientes temas: organizar y presentar la información para la toma de decisiones; reducir lo máximo posible la información abundante, evitando omitir características importantes de los datos. Identificarás qué estadísticos y qué gráficos son más útiles de acuerdo al problema que se te presente; evaluarás, descriptivamente, cómo se relacionan dos variables; desarrollarás y aplicarás los distintos conceptos de estadística descriptiva para diferentes problemáticas vinculadas a los negocios.

WEEK 2
Probabilidades y decisiones bajo incertidumbre
Bienvenidos a la semana 2 del curso. En esta semana veremos los siguientes temas: las principales funciones de probabilidad utilizadas en el campo de los negocios y las finanzas; los comportamientos de las variables y determinación de posibles ganancias o pérdidas; la toma de decisiones racionales en un contexto de incertidumbre; modelos de probabilidad para tomar decisiones que permitan incrementar la rentabilidad y éxito de un negocio; conceptos relacionados con la probabilidad para, entre otras cosas, medir el riesgo a través del Valor en Riesgo (o VaR, por sus siglas en inglés) y determinar el nivel de stock de cierto producto.

WEEK 3
Inferencia estadística
Bienvenidos a la semana 3 de este curso. Esta semana veremos los siguientes temas: datos de una muestra para extrapolar las conclusiones para toda la población; intervalos de confianza para medias y proporciones; evaluación empíricamente las conjeturas o suposición que se realicen respecto de la media o proporción; toma de decisiones en base a la información proporcionada por los datos; importancia del tamaño de la muestra; errores que se pueden cometer en el proceso de inferencia estadística.

WEEK 4
Introducción al análisis de regresión
• Aprenderás a estimar modelos de regresión con aplicaciones a negocios • Podrás describir relaciones entre variables, intentando medir el impacto que tiene una sobre la otra. • Analizarás qué factores determinan una variable • Realizarás predicciones en base a los modelos estimados
