Collaborative Teaching and Learning (European Schoolnet Academy)

Offered by European Schoolnet,
Collaborative Teaching and Learning (European Schoolnet Academy)

Being able to collaborate effectively is a valuable 21st-century skill, yet teaching about or through collaboration remains rare in schools because of a lack of understanding of what real collaboration in an educational setting means, and because existing policy conditions do not always enable it to flourish. Practitioners need a dedicated space and time to experiment and better understand what collaborative teaching and learning means in practice. This course is designed to give you that opportunity

Note: Please note that this course has concluded, although its content remains available for perusal. You can access the modules by enrolling in the course; however, it is no longer possible to receive the course badge, the module badges, or the course certificate. Finally, please note that support for this course is no longer provided by the course instructors or the EUN Academy team.

This introductory course will help you to better understand:

  1. What is collaborative learning?
  2. How can I carry it out effectively in my classroom?
  3. What tools can I use to assess collaborative learning?
  4. How can I collaborate with fellow teachers to facilitate collaborative learning?

You will:

  • Receive advice from experts and peers, as well as concrete suggestions about how to carry out collaborative teaching and learning in your classroom;
  • have access to videos of inspiring practice and other support material;
  • find a community of like-minded professionals on the course who can support you in improving your classroom practices;
  • reflect, discuss and share about these topics;
  • use a variety of online tools and social media to communicate and engage in some peer review activities.

But if it is to be successful, teachers and others require key skills and insights in order to create classroom environments which fully accommodate the learning needs of children with visual impairment.

How to Teach Computing: An Introduction to Concepts, Tools and Resources for Primary Teachers (European Schoolnet)

Technology is everywhere, if we like it or not. And nearly all future jobs require us to understand it. To respond to this, governments are including computing in national curricula for students of all ages. In the UK already every primary school teacher has to teach computing concepts and in many other countries more and more of us will be required to teach computing or at least integrate computing concepts, ideas and processes into our teaching. The course has been designed by teachers for teachers and will feature interviews, presentations, and activities from teachers, professors, students and computing professionals.

Creative use of Tablets in Schools (European Schoolnet)

Tablets with their simple interface, portability, speed, affordability and their variety of apps are quickly moving into schools across Europe and a growing number of teachers are experimenting with tablets or are interested in doing so. However, most of us are faced with the same questions: What rules do I need to set for the use of tablets in class? How do I deal with related administrative and technical issues? How can tablets support innovative approaches such as personalized or collaborative learning? This course does not only provide guidance on these topics but also provides a forum for you to exchange with your peers on these questions.

e-Learning Ecologies: Innovative Approaches to Teaching and Learning for the Digital Age (Coursera)

For three decades and longer we have heard educators and technologists making a case for the transformative power of technology in learning. However, despite the rhetoric, in many ways and at most institutional sites, education is still relatively untouched by technology. Even when technologies are introduced, the changes sometimes seem insignificant and the results seem disappointing. If the print textbook is replaced by an e-book, do the social relations of knowledge and learning necessarily change at all or for the better?
