Education Research that Matters: Doing Research in Your Learning Community (FutureLearn)

Build the tools and knowledge to perform your own education research and establish yourself as a teacher-researcher. Learn how to analyse research data and communicate your research findings. Many teachers want to learn new knowledge and methods to improve their teaching, but it can be hard for someone outside of research communities to perform research of their own. On this course, you will learn how to do your own education research and build supported communities of education research practice.

You will explore research design and learn about tools to help you do research focused on a series of common teaching challenges.
You’ll be supported in your research by expert university researchers who will help you find, analyse, and communicate your data.

What topics will you cover?

-Week 1: From research design to research practice – refining questions and research tools, securing samples, and ensuring ethical compliance.

  • Week 2: Doing the research – becoming a teacher-researcher.
  • Week 3: Analysing data – reflection, reflexivity, techniques for analysis.
  • Week 4: Communicating findings and having an impact.
