Syllabus

Module 1: Network Client Fundamentals
A computer's operating system (OS) provides interfaces that allow a user to operate the computer. As a network specialist, you need to use administrative interfaces to perform tasks that ordinary users are not permitted to do, such as installing and uninstalling apps. Most desktop computers and laptops run the Microsoft Windows operating system. The lessons in this module will help you to operate Windows and use basic management tools to report system status and configure the computer. You will also expand your understanding of basic networking protocols.

Module 2: Local Network Types
Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) networks are an important starting point for understanding network basics. Enterprise networks are the IT infrastructure used by midsize and large organizations, and they are everywhere in the modern IT field. In this module you will learn about larger networks by identifying network appliances and their uses, and by understanding the basics of network cable management.

Module 3: Other Network Types
Modern organizations rely on specialized networks. In this module you will learn about the way dedicated network data centers, virtualization technology, and the cloud all work together to meet evolving business needs.

Module 4: Enterprise Network Application Fundamentals
Enterprise networks are the IT infrastructure used by midsize and large organizations, and they are everywhere in the modern IT field. In this module you will expand your understanding of larger networks by identifying network security operations, understanding authentication standards, and using application protocols.

Module 5: Network Operations Support Fundamentals
Cybersecurity controls are integral to network operations and rely on a security professional with a strong knowledge of how networks function. This module will introduce you to network documentation and performance monitoring.

Module 6: Network Troubleshooting Fundamentals
Enterprise network support staff provide services to a wide range of customers, both internal and external. In this module you will learn the basics of help desk support, including documentation, using support tools, and using a standardized troubleshooting method.

Module 7: Linux App Server Fundamentals
The Linux operating system is an important part of the IT infrastructure, especially servers and the cloud. Nearly every developer and administrator will interact with it at some point in their career. The lessons in this module will help you understand the basic Linux commands, their syntax, and operations fundamentals. In addition, you will summarize and apply the Linux organization principles, apply permissions, and manage Linux-based servers.

Module 8: Automation Scripting Fundamentals
Whatever role you choose in IT—power user, administrator, or developer—you are likely to hear discussions of programming languages and interact with scripts. In this module, you will understand the basics of scripting, summarize the use of scripts in automation, and develop a Bash script.

Module 9: Data Management Fundamentals
The modern IT field includes data management as an essential function, as data is one of the most valuable assets an organization can hold. In this module, you will understand the basics of database management and apply your understanding in database analysis. In addition, you will summarize data security basics and apply your understanding by backing up data.
