Syllabus

Module 1: Security Operations Fundamentals
Cybersecurity encompasses a very wide range of roles and requires a high degree of collaborative teamwork. This module will help you to summarize the wide range of functions taken on by IT security staff and the types of cybersecurity threats that each role is responsible for analyzing and mitigating. This module is also an opportunity for you to understand the diverse paths that you can take when pursuing a career in IT security assurance.

Module 2: Microsoft Windows Administration
A computer's operating system (OS) provides interfaces that allow a user to operate the computer. As a security specialist, you need to use administrative interfaces to perform tasks that ordinary users are not permitted to do, such as installing and uninstalling apps. Most desktop computers and laptops run the Microsoft Windows operating system. The lessons in this module will help you to operate Windows and use basic management tools to report system status and configure the computer.

Module 3: Secure Network Client Fundamentals
During this module, you will learn about the basic functions of network protocols and the use of SOHO routers. In addition, you will learn how to use best practices to browse the web safely.

Module 4: Enterprise Campus Network Fundamentals
Enterprise networks are the IT infrastructure used by midsize and large organizations, and they are everywhere in the modern IT field. In this module you will expand your understanding of larger networks by identifying network appliances, implementing defense in depth, and understanding virtualization and data center features.

Module 5: Enterprise Network Application Fundamentals
In this module you will learn the secure methods by which enterprise networks operate, including encryption, application protocols, and the use of virtualization. You will apply your understanding in deploying different areas of a virtual network.

Module 6: Cybersecurity Controls
Cybersecurity controls are integral to network operations and rely on a security professional with a strong knowledge of how networks function. This module will introduce you to network documentation and monitoring, discuss the principles of redundancy and resilience, and apply your knowledge to remediation of a security incident.

Module 7: Linux App Server Fundamentals
The Linux operating system is an important part of the IT infrastructure, especially servers and the cloud. Nearly every developer and administrator will interact with it at some point in their career. The lessons in this module will help you understand the basic Linux commands, their syntax, and operations fundamentals. In addition, you will summarize and apply the Linux organization principles, apply permissions, and manage Linux-based servers.

Module 8: Automation Scripting Fundamentals
Whatever role you choose in IT—power user, administrator, or developer—you are likely to hear discussions of programming languages and interact with scripts. In this module you will understand the basics of scripting, summarize the use of scripts in automation, and develop a Bash script.

Module 9: Data Management Fundamentals
The modern IT field includes data management as an essential function, as data is one of the most valuable assets an organization can hold. In this module, you will understand the basics of database management and apply your understanding in database analysis. In addition, you will summarize data security basics and apply your understanding by backing up data.
